History

On January 1st 2006 Hillier & Associates, Inc. (HAI) completed our first 10 years of business! That’s 10 years of helping our clients reach their project goals, advancing our environmental and health objectives, and passing some pretty exciting personal mile–posts along the way. The commitment to good environmental stewardship and public health that we share with our clients has guided us to help clean numerous aquifers; improve hundreds of miles of roads, paths, and highways; treat thousands of tons of contaminated soil and water; provide clean water to tens of thousands of people; and to help ensure protection of uncounted lakes, rivers, and streams.

HAI was incorporated in 1996 by Certified Geologist James Hillier to provide earth science based consulting services to Maine’s residents, public agencies, and businesses. HAI originally employed two professionals and specialized in geological and geotechnical services. HAI welcomed its sixth member to its team in the fall of 2005. Expanding the team has allowed the company’s professional capabilities to expand over the years as well. Our services now include seven main categories: wastewater, stormwater, water resources, environmental assessment, geographic information systems, planning and site design, and project management and permitting, and we are able to manage an average of 30 to 40 projects simultaneously.

HAI’s technical capabilities have also expanded over the years. Today, HAI utilizes the latest technologies in the field to successfully complete our projects. Our team members are collectively proficient in information technologies like ARC/MAP and AUTOCAD, modeling programs like STRATOS, AQTESOLV, RAMAG, Rockworks, and Microsurvey, among others, and a variety of other technical field tools including a research/mapping boat with a 90 hp motor and trailer. HAI does most of its own printing in-house, and has the capacity to print up to 42” wide full color documents.

HAI has developed and retained many terrific clients over the years. Having completed over 350 projects in the last decade it’s clear that, as a consulting business, we only succeed though the success of our clients. We owe a huge thank you to our sustaining clients, so many of whom have been clients and friends since our beginning! We sincerely thank those of you who were part of our “first ten years”, and hope that we at HAI, together with all of you, will share many successes in the years and decades to come.
